It plays an important role in restorative sleep and synchronizing body rhythms, helping to promote natural hormonal balance. It is helpful for jet lag.* Wellness Resources offers melatonin in both a 0.5 mg and 3 mg potency. The production of melatonin declines with age, and it is typical that a dose of 0.5 mg 1 mg per evening will help offset this trend and promote a more restful sleep. However, many people benefit from higher amounts of melatonin.* The dose of melatonin needed varies considerably from person to person and is also affected by the time of year (lack of sunshine) and how cold it is. Thus, a dose can range anywhere from 0.5 mg before bed up to 9 mg before bed. Interestingly, each mg can make a significant difference. Thus, there needs to be an easy way for you to modulate your dose and find an amount that helps you. When melatonin is helping you it will work to promote more restful sleep, both getting to sleep and staying asleep. Too much melatonin will either give you a mild headache or hung over feeling the next day, and not enough doesnt help your sleep. Starting out with a smaller dose and working your way up is the best way to find an amount that works for you. As days become shorter or temperatures drop, you may need more. And conversely, as days become longer and temperatures are not cold then you may need less. If you have never tried melatonin it is recommended that you start with the 0.5 mg serving size and work with it initially. If you know you need 3 mg or more then ordering both sizes is a great way to go, as you can combine them and precisely manage the amount you are taking to get a dose that is just right for you.
